School of Hindu philosophy that developed the
teachings of the Upanishads. One of its
teachers was Samkara, who lived in S India in
the 8th century AD and is generally regarded
as a manifestation of Siva. He taught that
there is only one reality, Brahman, and that
knowledge of Brahman leads finally to moksha,
or liberation from reincarnation.
